Let Go of Your Fears to Pursue Your Passions
Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of looking ridiculous. We all have fears that hold us back from pursuing something we love.
But we also have within us an antidote to fear: courage.
Embracing courage doesn’t mean we are no longer afraid. Being courageous means that we choose to face our fears and move forward despite them.
Let Go of Your Fears to Pursue Your Passions will show you how to embrace courage and work through fears so you can start living the life you dream of!
1. Identify the Fears Holding You BackÂ
Fear is wired into our DNA to help us survive.
We react to perceived threats with a “fight or flight” response. Sometimes, this response accurately signals we are in danger. Other times, it is inaccurate. For example, when we have a stress reaction to public speaking. We aren’t really in danger, we just think we are.
Identifying and questioning fears around a passion you wish to pursue is an important first step toward embracing courage. You’re likely to find many “fears” aren’t worth the worry. You would be much better off investing your energy into doing something you love.Â
2. Change How You React to Fear
Fear is a scary feeling. We typically do everything we can to avoid it.
But when it comes to pursuing our passions, this can limit us more than it helps. For example, we might project our fears into the future: “If I do X, Y is sure to happen!” We make the choice to not do something. We’ve imagined the worst and “know” it will occur.
Fortunately, mindfulness practices like breathing or meditation can help us shift our response to fear. When we calm the body and mind, we are in a better position to embrace the courage we need to overcome fearful thinking.
3. Embrace Courage!Â
Fear can keep us stuck in a loop. We might ruminate on thoughts of not being good enough or tell ourselves we are sure to fail if we try to pursue something we love.
To move forward, we must embrace courage! We need to look at how we can break a fear cycle, move out of our comfort zone, and do what we love even if we are afraid.
As Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
